Reflection for Thursday

After analyzing the difference between the 1990s standards and the 2000s standards, I have come to a general conclusion. The large difference I see between the timeframes is that technology changed dramatically, therefore, expectations had to change. Since there is more advanced technology, there are higher expectations of the students and teachers. I think that the technology standards in 2025 will accommodate the technology that is developed by then.

From birth, students will have been surrounded by our current technology and will already be familiar with what we have right now. Once those students have arrived in 2025, technology will have advanced so much that the standards will have to reflect those changes. We have to ask ourselves, what do we want students to learn in order to best prepare them for the real world?

As a teacher, in order for me to meet these future standards, I will have to constantly stay up to date on technology. I can't expect the school district that I'm working at to provide me with that training. I will have to continue to self-educate myself for a lifetime to adapt to the new technology and standards. If I don't take the responsibility to stay educated in technology, then no one will make me and that's not best teaching practice.

Reflection
Please write a general reflection of class today on your blog, as well as answer the following question:
As you think about your key assessment, and about the technology that you have learned about so far, what would make your technology situation ideal? i.e. in a perfect world your class would look like... or... in 3 years my class will be able to... etc.

Please publish your blog article and post a link in the comments section of this blog article.

My reflection on today's class is quite overwhelming. Ack! I think that all the resources presented today are great. I just wish I was proficient on all the resources right now, but I know that I need to take the time out to play around with all the websites/resources so I'm able to incorporate what I can in to my daily instruction.

After seeing Prezi, I feel like Power Point is so old school. I hope to become very well versed in Prezi so I can help my colleagues at my new school and district incorporate Prezi in to daily instruction. It's so neat!

I look forward to using Storybird, because this would definitely give my students a sense of accomplishment. :)

I'm so happy to know about delicious.com because I can now centralize all my links instead of digging around in notebooks, notes, favorites and all the other hidden places I have recorded my favorite websites/links. Thank you so much! :)

In an ideal world, I would proficient in all the resources today. Then, every student of mine would have their own laptop to use every day.

Reflection Answers

On your own blog, please reflect on today's class by answering the following:

1. What did you learn today (specifically, what did you learn that was new)?

I learned a lot today. Specifically, everything was new to me. When we spoke about browsers, I had no clue that Mozilla Firefox was much more secure than Internet Explorer. I will be using Mozilla Firefox more often in the future. I learned how to set up a blog and how to use it. I also learned how to create a link (neat!). I learned how to create a survey, plus how to post documents on google docs.

2. How could you use your new blog in your classroom?

I'm not exactly quite sure how I could use my new blog in my classroom since I'm a bilingual resource teacher and some of my students/parents will not have access to the internet. I may use my blog with staff members more than with my students/parents. I will be teaching third and fourth grade students (push in/pull out/co-teach). Depending on who I co-teach, we may be able to collaborate with how to use the blog.
